The question for some of us is, why some people want to keep working decades beyond retirement age? CNN Opinion editor Stephanie Griffith asked seven people who are past the conventional retirement age why they are still at the job and got as many responses as there were respondents. They continue to work happily and productively, and were happy to explain to us how and why they do it. Over the years I’ve had to adapt frequently to the changing technology, which isn’t always easy for someone my age. That may be the secret of working well past the time society tells us we’re supposed to retire.

“Maycember” is a term that online content creators the Holderness family coined to describe the sheer chaos of the month of May, much like the month of December. A state ethics panel quietly dismissed a complaint last summer against the New York judge presiding over the criminal trial of Donald J. Trump, issuing a warning over small donations the judge had made to groups supporting Democrats, including the campaign of Joseph R. Biden. The judge, Juan M. Merchan, donated a total of $35 to the groups in 2020, including a $15 donation earmarked for the Biden campaign, and $10 to a group called “Stop Republicans.”Political contributions of any kind are prohibited under state judicial ethics rules. “Justice Merchan said the complaint, from more than a year ago, was dismissed in July with a caution,” the spokesman for the court system, Al Baker, said in a statement. A caution does not include any penalty, but it can be considered in any future cases reviewed by the state’s Commission on Judicial Conduct. A letter outlining the caution was not released because of the commission’s rules, and Justice Merchan did not make the letter available.

There is a good chance that Donald Trump’s polling lead in the 2024 presidential election is more fragile than it looks. The most immediate problem for him is the fact that he’s on trial in a criminal case. There is also the issue of the campaign itself, which is a smaller affair than his 2020 effort, with fewer resources. Trump could very well hold his lead through the summer and into the fall but still fail to turn stated preferences into actual votes. What looks solid in the numbers could turn out to be ephemeral in the final tallies.

The class of 2024 is facing a tough job market. Hiring has slowed across the U.S., and entry-level jobs are getting more competitive in the wake of white-collar layoffs. Tai Walker, a senior at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, started her job search in March 2024 and has submitted over 100 applications. Walker says she's researching artificial intelligence and other tech boot camps to broaden her skill set and increase her job prospects. Even though some entry-level jobs have gotten harder to land, industries experiencing staffing shortages like education and construction are still hiring new college grads.

"We should be anticipating higher highs in the market," Lundgren, the chief market strategist at MOTR Capital Management & Research and a portfolio manager at Little Harbor Advisors, recently told Business Insider. The 28-year market veteran's upbeat sentiment is more widespread now than last fall, when the S&P 500 struggled mightily before a powerful end-of-year surge. There can be negative or positive stretches within an established bull or bear market, Lundgren noted. Only one of the ETFs tracking Lundgren's preferred sectors has beaten the S&P 500 (in dark blue) since late last summer. When adjusting for market cap, cyclicals have fared much better and have bested the equal-weight version of the S&P 500 in several cases.

CNN —Skin cancer is by far the most common form of cancer in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. As we head into summer, what do we need to know about the chance of developing skin cancer? In addition, those who are at increased risk for skin cancer should ask a dermatologist if they should receive regular skin exams. These include personal or family history of skin cancer, history of precancerous lesions such as actinic keratoses, certain genetic disorders such as xeroderma pigmentosum and history of immunosuppression. And it’s not only people who are fair-skinned who can have skin cancer; individuals of all colors, including those with brown and Black skin, can develop skin cancer.

Snagging a summer internship at a leading investment bank is not just a fun summer job — it's often the starting point for a career on Wall Street. Wall Street internships are not easy to land, as BI has previously reported. Goldman Sachs, for example, accepted just 1.5% of candidates into its 2022 summer internship class out of more than 236,000 applications worldwide. Interns who perform well tend to be offered a full-time job as an entry-level investment banker upon graduation. We have advice from executives at top firms like Goldman Sachs as well as former interns on how to prepare for and make the most of the Wall Street summer internship.

Let's take a look at how gold stocks have fared and see how recent price action suggests the uptrend is nowhere near completed. While gold stocks tend to be very much tied to the performance of the underlying commodity, there will often be periods of dislocation, where gold and gold miners appear to be more disconnected. This appears to have occurred in the first quarter, when physical gold was fairly flat, but gold miners were sold off into a February low. The chart of Royal Gold (RGLD) shows that the early breakouts are beginning to occur. Given the strength in the charts of physical gold and gold miners, this group may serve as a compelling opportunity going into the summer months.

United Airlines said the Federal Aviation Administration has cleared it to add new aircraft and routes months after the regulator stepped up its scrutiny of the carrier following several safety incidents. United said in March that the FAA had stepped up scrutiny of the airline after a spate of incidents earlier this year. That prevented it from launching new routes, including flights to Faro, Portugal, ahead of the busy summer travel season. The clearance from the FAA is welcome news as United and other carriers expect a record peak season this year. "We will continue to see an FAA presence in our operation as they review our work processes, manuals and facilities," it said in its employee memo.
